Preparing properly for your semi-permanent brow appointment can help ensure the best possible results. Small things such as avoiding certain foods, skincare products, or medications before your treatment can make a difference to pigment retention and how your skin responds during the procedure.

If you’re planning your brow treatment, this guide explains how to prepare in the days leading up to your appointment so you can arrive relaxed and ready.

Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine Before Your Appointment

It is recommended to avoid alcohol and caffeine for at least 24 hours before your brow treatment. Go for a caffeine free option instead.

Both alcohol and caffeine can thin the blood slightly, which may cause the skin to bleed more during the procedure. When this happens, it can make it more difficult for the pigment to settle properly in the skin.

Examples to avoid before your appointment include:

  • coffee

  • energy drinks

  • alcohol

  • strong pre-workout drinks

Drinking plenty of water instead can help keep your skin hydrated and in good condition for the treatment.

Be Mindful of Skincare Products

Certain skincare products can make the skin more sensitive or fragile, which may affect the treatment.

In the week before your appointment, try to avoid strong exfoliating or active skincare products around the brow area, such as:

  • retinol or vitamin A products

  • chemical exfoliants (AHA or BHA acids)

  • strong facial peels

  • microdermabrasion treatments

These products can make the skin thinner or more sensitive, which may affect how the pigment is implanted.

If you are unsure about any skincare products you use regularly, it’s best to check with your technician before your appointment.

Medication Considerations

Some medications and supplements can affect the skin or increase sensitivity during treatment.

Examples that may influence the procedure include:

  • blood thinning medication

  • aspirin

  • certain supplements such as fish oil or vitamin E

If you take prescription medication, it is important not to stop taking it without medical advice. Instead, inform your technician during your consultation so they can assess whether the treatment is suitable.

Providing accurate information about medications and medical conditions helps ensure your treatment is carried out safely.

Grooming Your Brows Before the Appointment

It is best not to wax, tint, or heavily shape your brows immediately before your appointment.

Lynsey will need to see your natural brow shape and hair growth pattern in order to design the most flattering brow shape for your face.

If you normally maintain your brows, try to leave them untouched for at least one to two weeks before the appointment.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

Your brow appointment usually takes around 2, so arriving prepared can help you feel comfortable.

You may wish to bring:

  • reference photos of brow styles you like

  • headphones or something to listen to during the appointment (Although you will have the option of your choice of music :) or we can chat throughout the treatment.

  • comfortable clothing (Avoid wearing your favourite white tops is a good idea!)

Many clients also arrive with their usual makeup on so the technician can see how they normally shape their brows.

Arriving Relaxed and Ready

Preparing properly before your semi-permanent brow appointment can help your treatment go smoothly and support better healing afterwards.

By avoiding alcohol and caffeine, being mindful of skincare products, and arriving with your natural brows ready for mapping, you give your technician the best possible starting point to create beautifully balanced brows.

If you have any questions before your appointment, it’s always best to contact your technician in advance so they can guide you through the preparation process.
